INDIANA TEEN FACING OWI (OPERATING WHILE INTOXICATED) CHARGES AFTER CAUSING A HEAD-ON HORSE-DRAWN BUGGY COLLISION. ADULT FAMILY MEMBERS ARE FACING CHARGES FOR PROVIDING THE ALCOHOL TO THE UNDERAGE TEENS.(PHOTO).

If you are going to party like it's 1899, apparently you will face consequences like it's 2025.

Indiana teen facing OWI (operating while intoxicated) charges after causing a head-on horse-drawn buggy collision. Adult family members are facing charges for providing the alcohol to the underage teens.

On Saturday (a little after midnight) first responders in Adam's County, Indiana, responded to an unusual accident. Two horse-drawn carriages were involved in a literal "head-on" collision.

As authorities arrived on the scene, they discovered an unconscious 19-year-old male. The 19-year-old was missing his two front teeth from the wreck.

He was taken to a Fort Wayne Hospital where it was determined he also had suffered a concussion and multiple abrasions and bruises.

Deputies quickly determined the 19-year-old had been to a birthday party where he had consumed alcohol.  After leaving the party, the 19-year-old had attempted to pass another horse-drawn buggy in front of him. Unfortunately, he failed to see two horse-drawn buggies coming in the opposite direction.

The first buggy swerved hard to avoid the accident and hit the ditch, avoiding the accident. However, the second oncoming buggy was not so lucky and was struck by the 19-year-old's buggy head-on.

As Adams County Deputies investigated, they learned the 19-year-old had attended a birthday at a residence and was given alcohol.  Deputies questioned the homeowners. Their reported response was, "We didn't think one drink would hurt anybody".

The homeowners, identified as David and Annie Schwartz, now face charges of furnishing alcohol to minors, proximate cause to serious injury.

Deputies also discovered that the other buggy was also being operated by minors who had been drinking at a different residence. When questioned, the homeowner also admitted to furnishing alcohol to the minors.

The homeowner was identified as Mahlon Schwartz and is being charged with providing the use of property for minor consumption. Naoma Schwartz was also charged with furnishing alcohol to minors.

The 19-year-old who caused the accident is being charged  with OWI as well as minor consumption, improper passing, and serious injury with implied consent refusal.

The passengers in the other buggy were charged with minor consumption.

The horses were uninjured.
