Free Surgical Outreach in Umueri Brings Relief to Long-Suffering Patients

A medical outreach at Umueri General Hospital in Anambra East is giving free surgical care to residents who have lived for years with hernias and hydroceles.

The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Hon. Afam Obidike, visited the hospital to review the ongoing programme sponsored by the Mayor of Anambra East, Hon. Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze.

Dr. Obidike said many beneficiaries had endured their conditions for 6 to 10 years because they could not afford surgeries that cost up to ₦500,000. He praised the mayor and his wife for funding the outreach and noted that all procedures are being carried out by the hospital’s own medical team, showing improved local capacity.

Several beneficiaries were interviewed through their relations, who expressed gratitude and described the intervention as timely relief for their families.

Senior Resident Doctor, Dr. Obi, said 20 surgeries have been completed out of more than 50 registered cases. Mayor Chinweze said the outreach is part of efforts to support vulnerable residents during the festive season.
