Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau confirm relationship on social media
American singer Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have publicly confirmed their relationship on social media, ending months of speculation.
Perry, a 13-time Grammy nominee, shared a video on Instagram Saturday showing her eating sushi in Tokyo while Trudeau looked on affectionately with his arm around her. “Tokyo times on tour and more,” she captioned the post, which also included a selfie with Trudeau. The pop star is currently performing in Japan as part of her “Lifetimes” tour, with a recent concert in Saitama, about 15 miles north of Tokyo.
Trudeau had earlier shared a photo on X showing the couple posing with Japan’s former prime minister Fumio Kishida and his wife, Yuko. In his post, Kishida noted that Trudeau “visited Japan with his partner and joined me and my wife for lunch.” Trudeau responded, expressing that he and Perry were “so glad to have the chance to sit down” with the couple. Trudeau stepped down as prime minister in March after nearly a decade in office.
While neither Perry nor Trudeau has issued an official statement about their relationship, their social media posts mark the first public confirmation since their initial sightings together in July in Montreal. Earlier appearances included Trudeau singing “Firework” at one of Perry’s concerts and the couple holding hands in Paris on Perry’s birthday, Oct. 25, after attending a cabaret show.
Trudeau announced his separation from his wife of 18 years, Sophie Grégoire, in August 2023; they share three children: Xavier, Hadrien, and Ella-Grace. Perry has a 5-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove, with actor Orlando Bloom. Perry and Bloom, who had been engaged since 2019, confirmed their split in July.
