 The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday. Police ACP slumps and dies in Abakaliki.


The police Community in Ebonyi State has been thrown into mourning following the death of an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola.


The deceased an officer in charge of the State Intelligence Department (SID), reportedly slumped during a management meeting at the Command Headquarters Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, around 11 o'clock in the morning


According to the police source as disclosed to NTA, he suddenly developed breathing difficulties and began gasping for breath during the meeting, prompting his being rushed to the hospital for medical attention.


Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations officer in the state, DSP Joshua Ukandu, said he had crisis during a meeting and was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately, could not survive it.


Meanwhile, his remains have been deposited at the morgue of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital (AE-FUTHA 1) in Abakaliki.
