 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms.  Europe and India marked a historic moment as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the conclusion of a landmark free trade agreement, describing it as the mother of all deals. 

The pact creates a massive free trade zone of nearly two billion people and is expected to significantly strengthen economic ties, investment flows, and strategic cooperation between the two sides.


Beyond the economic breakthrough, the moment carried powerful cultural symbolism. Standing alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ursula von der Leyen was draped in the traditional Assamese Gamosa, bringing Assam’s cultural identity into the global spotlight during one of the most important diplomatic announcements in recent times.


Von der Leyen said the agreement is only the beginning of a deeper strategic relationship between India and the European Union, with both sides set to benefit in areas such as trade, technology, sustainability, and global stability. The deal is being hailed as a defining step in reshaping global economic partnerships.


The presence of the Assamese Gamosa at such a high level international event highlighted the growing global footprint of Assam and its cultural heritage. It symbolised how the traditions of India’s Northeast are increasingly being recognised on the world stage, reinforcing the idea that India’s rise globally is deeply rooted in its diverse cultural identity.
