2 dead and 3 injured after helicopter makes emergency landing in Philippines

A civilian helicopter made an emergency landing Tuesday in a grassy area near a village east of Manila, resulting in two deaths and three injuries among the passengers.

The Bell 505 helicopter had departed from Manila, bound for Quezon province, roughly 400 kilometers (248 miles) southeast of the capital, when it was forced to land about 50 meters (164 feet) from the nearest homes in Pililla town, Rizal province. Authorities said the cause of the emergency landing, which occurred in clear weather, is not yet known.

One passenger died on impact, while another succumbed to injuries at a hospital. The three others, including the pilot, were hospitalized with injuries. Pililla Mayor John Masinsin noted that two of the passengers were foreigners, including one of the deceased.

“The survivors are still in shock, so we cannot get details from them yet,” Masinsin said, adding that authorities are prioritizing their recovery. Aviation officials confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
