ADC Stakeholder, Engr. Shadrack Katung Majison, Calls For Calm Over Zangon Kataf/Jaba Reps Seat Dispute

A stakeholder of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Engr. Shadrack Katung Majison, has called for caution and restraint among party faithful and political stakeholders in Zango State Constituency over ongoing agitation for the House of Representatives seat to return to Zango Kataf Local Government Area.

In a statement issued from Madauchi, Zonkwa Ward, Majison acknowledged the longstanding gentleman’s agreement to rotate the House of Representatives seat between Zango Kataf and Jaba LGAs. However, he clarified that there has never been any formal arrangement to micro-zone the position to specific wards or blocs within Zango Kataf.

He noted that recent political developments should be viewed within a broader context, citing the election of Senator Sunday Marshall Katung as an example of a regional contest involving all eight local governments in the zone.

According to him, aspirants emerged from various LGAs, including Jaba, Kaura, Kagarko, Jema’a, and Zango Kataf, underscoring that such positions are determined through wide participation rather than narrow local interests.

Majison further pointed out that past administrations have demonstrated inclusiveness. He referenced the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration, which appointed individuals from the Atyap extraction into key federal positions, including a ministerial slot, a Director-General role, and a Federal Character Commission position.

He also cited historical precedents where leadership positions were not restricted by micro-zoning, noting that the late Senator Isaiah Balat and Hon. Ruth Jummai Ango once simultaneously held senatorial and House of Representatives positions from the same Atyap extraction.

The ADC stakeholder stated that the party is positioning itself to present a credible candidate from Zango Kataf LGA, one with the competence, capacity, and vision to represent the entire constituency effectively, regardless of internal divisions.

He warned against allowing sectional interests to create disunity, stressing that politics should not weaken collective strength.

He urged stakeholders to ensure a level playing field where individuals can contest for offices freely, emphasizing that competence and integrity should be the primary criteria.

While reiterating support for the return of the House of Representatives seat to Zango Kataf in line with existing arrangements, Majison rejected any attempt to restrict the position to six wards.

He added that the ongoing debate appears to be an internal matter within the APC and should not be extended to involve the ADC.
