 Senator Sunday Karimi has raised concerns over the growing incidence of kidnapping and banditry in Kogi State, describing abductions as a daily occurrence in the state. Karimi made the remarks on Wednesday during plenary while contributing to a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Senator Abdulfatai Buhari on the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso. The lawmaker said kidnapping and banditry have become major security challenges threatening the stability of the country, stressing that responsibility for addressing the menace should not rest solely on the Federal Government. According to him, bandits invaded Ayedun Bunu, a community in Kogi West Senatorial District, in the early hours of Monday and abducted 28 residents.  ANAMBRA SECURITY: POLICE-LED JOINT SECURITY TEAM STORMS A BUSH IN AWUDA, NNOBI, RESCUES AN ABDUCTED VICTIM, ARRESTS THREE NOTORIOUS KIDNAPPERS, RECOVER ARM AND RANSOM. 


In the evening of 18th April 2026, Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, Nnobi, acting on a well-coordinated operation based on credible intelligence, stormed a bush located at Umuezeala Awuda Village, Nnobi, in Idemili south  Local Government Area. The team successfully arrested three armed suspects, rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and the ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000) from the suspects.


The three suspects arrested at the scene, all males include: Chidalu Obi 25 years, Chichebem Ojenigbo 26 years and Chikannechukwu Eze, 20 years respectively.


Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects lured the victim, an electrician by profession, under the pretext of offering him a job. Upon arrival at the agreed location, the victim was forcefully blindfolded at gunpoint and taken to the bush at Umuezeala Awuda, where he was held captive.


Meanwhile, the suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to collecting a ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000), which was transferred into a SportyBet account belonging to one of the suspects, Chidalu Obi.


The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to continue to support the Police with timely and credible information.
