 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity. PRESIDENT TINUBU FELICITATES WITH EX-ABIA GOVERNOR, ORJI UZOR KALU ON HIS BIRTHDAY


President Bola Tinubu has congratulated his friend and political ally, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, former Abia State governor and Senator representing Abia North in the National Assembly, on his birthday.
In a statement by Bayo Onanuga
Special Adviser to the President,
Information & Strategy, "The President notes the Senator's immense contributions to national development and commitment to the development of Abia State, which he served as governor from 1999 to 2007."

It adds, in the Senate, Orji Kalu had previously served as Chief Whip and now chairs the Senate Committee on Southeast Development Commission (SEDC).

SEDC is one of the regional development commissions established by President Tinubu to accelerate the growth and development of the regions.

President Tinubu commends Senator Orji Uzor Kalu's vision, resilience, industry and service to the nation and commitment to the progress of Abia as noteworthy.

"As a media mogul and Chairman of SLOK Holding, the former Abia governor is also playing his part in the economic development of the country.

The President wished Kalu long life, greater strength and increased wisdom as he continues his service to the nation. It concludes.
