Anne Hathaway has revealed for the first time that she struggled with vision problems for a decade.
During an April 22 appearance on The New York Times’ Popcast, the 43-year-old actress shared that she was “legally blind” in one eye due to an early onset cataract between the ages of 30 and 40.
The condition, which clouds the lens of the eye, left her with severely impaired sight until she underwent surgery. Hathaway admitted she hadn’t realized how much stress the issue was causing until her vision was restored.
The Mother Mary star explained that cataracts made her vision feel like looking through a foggy window, affecting her daily life and taxing her nervous system.
After surgery, she said she was able to see the “full spectrum” again and now feels immense gratitude for her eyesight.
Hathaway reflected on how, just a few generations ago, treatment like hers wouldn’t have been possible, calling her restored vision “a miracle.”
In recent weeks, Hathaway has also addressed speculation about her appearance. In a May 21 interview with Elle, she dismissed rumors of plastic surgery, clarifying that a braided hairstyle tutorial was simply a beauty trick, not evidence of medical procedures.
While she prefers not to comment on such speculation, Hathaway admitted the conversation had become distracting.
She emphasized that she hasn’t undergone surgery but added candidly that she might consider a facelift someday.
