 NDPC LAUNCHES FORENSIC DATA PRIVACY INVESTIGATION INTO UNILAG, LOTUS BANK, AND HACKERBELLA The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) is investigating the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lotus Bank, and Hackerbella Ltd. This probe follows complaints that student data was used to open bank accounts without permission. The data sharing was reportedly part of a "Smart ID Card" project that mixed student IDs with bank cards. National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, ordered a full review of how this student information was collected and shared. Investigators are checking if the organizations followed the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023. They will look into the companies' privacy notices, data security, and whether they used automated systems to score or profile students.  Works Ministry, Police Forge Alliance on Highway Protection


The Federal Ministry of Works and the Nigeria Police Force have reinforced collaboration on the protection of federal road infrastructure nationwide, as the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji  Disu, paid a strategic courtesy visit to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, in Abuja 


The engagement, focused on improving security architecture around major highway construction corridors, including the Federal Government’s flagship legacy projects under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu


 Minister of Works, David Umahi, commended the police and other security agencies for their continued support in safeguarding critical national assets  despite prevailing security challenges in some parts of the country,

 

He described the administration’s flagship highway projects as long-term investment corridors designed to stimulate economic growth, enhance logistics, and strengthen national integration


The Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, described the visit as timely and strategic, noting that road infrastructure remains central to the administration’s economic transformation agenda.


The Inspector-General of Police , Olatunji Disu said the visit is to strengthen possible areas of collaboration, and to improve safety on the nation highways.
