A heroic Ohio father of 2 gave his life to help stop a woman being assaulted by a deranged and out of control ex-boyfriend.
22-year-old, Javen Meadows, is being charged with str@ngulation and assault following a dramatic incident at a Hillsboro, Ohio gas station on May, 31st. Now, a 49-year-old local resident who stepped in to attempt to stop Javen's rampage has passed away from severe injuries sustained during the incident. New charges have not been released, but are sure to come; following the tragic passing of the hero, Billy Grooms.
The unbelievable series of events began at approximately 2:30 p.m. on that Sunday afternoon. According to official reports, Javen Meadows came flying into the lot while chasing his girlfriend, who was in another truck. As he was parking his Ford F-150 he crashed into her truck that was parked. Javen then flew out of his truck and grabbed his ex by the neck before throwing her to the ground. He then began kicking her while she was on the ground. She was able to struggle back to her feet only to have Javen take her phone and punch her, knocking her back to the ground.
This is when the hero of the story entered the fray. BIlly Grooms was in the parking lot with his son.
Billy was not the type of man to stand by while someone was being assaulted. He ran over to intervene, but when the assailant saw someone who was NOT a defenseless victim ready to fight, he showed his cowardice and attempted to flee.
Javen jumped back into his truck and began leaving, however he had one more awful and life altering thing to do. He aimed his pickup truck at Billy Grooms and purposefully plowed down the brave man who had made him flee in terror of real consequences.
Billy Grooms was rushed to a nearby hospital with multiple broken bones, severe internal organ injuries, and a traumatic brain injury. Billy would languish in ICU on life support until he eventually succumbed to his injuries on June 4th.
Billy Grooms was the devoted father of 2 children and a loving husband to his wife, Amy. He was the main provider for his family who are devastated and trying to find a way to go on without their rock, Billy. However they are not surprised that Billy would lose his life attempting to save another.
Billy's love for others and desire to help others is living on after his untimely and uncalled for passing. His organs are being donated in the hopes of saving another family the trauma of loss.
The woman who Billy intervened on the behalf of, believes that Billy is a hero and that she would have been the person who passed away if not for Billy.
What a great guy and true hero. Billy's children will have to live without him but his heroic actions will live on. They should definitely be proud of their hero dad.
