 Okpoko Building Collapse: Ojukwu Condemns Illegal Structure, Orders Demolition ‎ ‎By Chukwuka Ugokwe ‎ ‎The Anambra State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Bar. Chijioke Ojukwu, has on Oct 8, described the collapse of a three-storey building under construction in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area, as unfortunate. ‎ ‎The incident, which occurred in the Anata Anaba area of the town, claimed the lives of a middle-aged woman and her 14-year-old daughter, amid allegations that warnings about the safety of the building had been ignored. ‎ ‎The victims, identified as Happiness Ugoagu and her daughter, Chikaima, were reportedly asleep in their bedroom when the building collapsed onto their residence. ‎ ‎Ojukwu, who visited the scene alongside officials of the ministry, alleged that substandard materials had been used in the construction.  Gunmen Demand ₦20 Million Each for Abducted NYSC Members in Kogi


Gunmen who abducted members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) three days ago have demanded a ransom of ₦20 million for each victim.


The corps members were travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing their three-week orientation exercise when they were seized along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.


A family member of one of the victims told reporters that the abductors had contacted the family to announce the ransom demand. “One of our daughters who was kidnapped on her way from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing three weeks orientation camp. The kidnappers are requesting ₦20 million naira,” the source said.


The development follows confirmation by the Kogi State Police Command that some passengers, including NYSC members, were abducted along the route. The command said 11 abducted persons, including the drivers of the two vehicles involved, had been rescued in a joint operation by security personnel. Efforts were continuing to locate and free those still in captivity.


Families of some of the remaining victims have appealed to the Federal Government, the NYSC and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure their release.
