 NHRC RAISES CONCERN OVER INCITING STATEMENTS AHEAD OF ELECTIONS; URGES CITIZENS TO PROMOTE PEACE / DEMOCRACY The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has raised concern over cases of hate speech, inflammatory statements, threats of violence and voter intimidation ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun state as well as the 2027 General Election. At a press briefing in Abuja, Executive secretary of the Commission Tony Ojukwu stressed the need for urgent action by relevant authorities to address statements capable of heightening tension and undermining peaceful participation in the electoral process. The NHRC specifically drew attention to divisive statements attributed to some Nigerians regarding the election in Osun State.  The commission urged all stakeholders to exercise restraint and promote messages that support peace, tolerance and democratic participation.
