Trump orders U.S flags to fly at half-staff for one week after Dolly Parton’s death Dolly Parton has received a rare political honour from President Donald Trump, who ordered American flags to fly at half-staff nationwide for a full week after the country music icon’s death at 80. The flags went to half-staff following Parton’s death on Aug. 25 and will remain there until sunset on Tuesday, Sept. 1, according to the White House. The week-long tribute is longer than the periods ordered for other notable figures, including former Republican senator Lindsey Graham and conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.  Flags were flown at half-staff for five days after Graham’s death in July, while Kirk’s tribute lasted four days after his d3@th in September 2025.  Sandra Bullock reveals she slept on Dolly Parton’s tour bus while filming Miss Congeniality 2


Sandra Bullock has recalled the unusual experience of sharing a tour bus with Dolly Parton while filming Miss Congeniality 2.


Bullock, 62, told PEOPLE at the Practical Magic 2 premiere in London on Wednesday, Aug. 26, that Parton chose to stay on her pink tour bus rather than use a hotel room during a trip to Las Vegas for the 2005 comedy.


“I said, ‘Okay, So, Miss Parton, we’ve got a hotel and room for you that’s massive.’ And she goes, ‘No, I’ll stay in the bus,’” Bullock recalled.


When Bullock asked where Parton would do her hair and makeup, the country music icon replied, “Oh, I’ll do it on the bus.”


Parton also planned to sleep on the bus, leading Bullock to decide, “Then I’m sleeping on the bus.”


“So she and I slept side-by-side on the bus,” Bullock said, remembering the time she spent with Parton, who died on Aug. 25 at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer.


The two also shared a memorable scene in Miss Congeniality 2, in which Bullock’s character, Gracie, tackles Parton after mistaking her for a lookalike.


Bullock said Parton made the scene easier with her sense of humour. “She looked at me and said: ‘We’re going to put the Madonna-Britney kiss to shame!’”


“And I thought, ‘Wow, you rock. You just rock!’” Bullock said at the time. “Really, she was everything you’d want her to be and more.”


Reflecting on Parton’s death, Bullock added, “She’s here. She sprinkles everywhere. She’s not going anywhere.”


Parton’s death has prompted tributes from fans, celebrities, politicians and members of the British royal family.
