 When They Arrest You, You’ll Know You Have No One’ — Mowiz Warns Kaduna Social Media Users Over Defamatory Posts

Kaduna-based radio personality Mohammed Suleman, popularly known as Mowiz, has warned social media users in Kaduna State against making defamatory statements about individuals, businesses and organisations online.

In a social media post, Mowiz alleged that several people from Kaduna State had recently faced arrest or imprisonment following comments and claims they made on social media.

According to him, one of the individuals was allegedly arrested after making claims about Tony Elumelu's family, including an allegation involving Elumelu's wife and musician Chike. Mowiz claimed that the individual was traced through his X account and subsequently taken to Kirikiri.

He also alleged that the person had used artificial-intelligence-generated images to portray himself online as wealthy and living abroad, despite reportedly being based in Kaduna.

Mowiz further claimed that another Kaduna resident was imprisoned after allegedly making statements on social media suggesting that OPay would cease operations in Nigeria. He described the case as involving alleged damage to the company's reputation.

The broadcaster also referred to another individual from Kaduna who was reportedly detained in Kano and later released, alleging that the person had made defamatory statements against individuals, brands and a movement on social media.

Mowiz said the cases should serve as a warning to social media users who make potentially defamatory claims against people or organisations they would not confront directly.

He disclosed that he had recently intervened on behalf of another social media user who, according to him, was at risk of being arrested. Mowiz said he had appealed for the person's release despite having previously been offended by the individual.

“I don't want to be responsible for anyone's predicament in life. If for anything, I want everyone to do well,” he said.

He nevertheless cautioned social media users in Kaduna against what he described as the misuse of social media, warning that defamatory statements could have consequences beyond the individuals making them.
