A trooper with the Georgia State Patrol observed an Audi Sedan driving in a dangerous and erratic manner at approximately 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, October 10th.
The driver who would later be identified as 33-year-old Cameron Kemp was traveling at speeds of up to 110 mph with no headlights. Troopers report that in addition to the high speeds, Kemp was weaving in and out of traffic with blatant disregard for the safety of other motorists.
After this high-speed and fatal incident eventually ran its lethal course, it would be determined that Kemp was driving on a suspended license and had two active warrants.
Sadly, Cameron's poor decision to try to outrun his warrants led him to Saturday night's fatal outcome.
However, the GSP has acknowledged that high-speed pursuits are dangerous and a serious risk for innocent bystanders.
Upon witnessing Kemp's erratic driving, the trooper initiated a chase that took place in the eastbound lane of I-20. As Kemp tried to evade the trooper, he exited the interstate once on the Candler Road exit only to return to I-20.
He tried this maneuver again at the Wesley Road exit but lost control of his vehicle and hit the guardrail before colliding with multiple vehicles.
7-month-old, Kayalia Tolbert, and 2 other infants were passengers in one of the TEN vehicles struck by Kemp.
All three infants were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital where Kayalia succumbed to her injuries. There is no report on the current condition of the other two infants.
Cameron Kemp also lost his life in the accident.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this absolute tragedy.
