Galatasaray Legend Necati Ateş Critiques Victor Osimhen's Body Language and Decision Making Amidst Scoring Drought

Former Galatasaray forward Necati Ateş has publicly levied criticism against Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, scrutinizing the Nigerian's body language and in-game decision-making. Ateş’s pointed remarks, as quoted by Habersarikirmizi, emerged following Galatasaray's narrow 1-0 victory over Gençlerbirliği on Saturday, sparking debate around Osimhen’s recent form.

Osimhen's Goalless Streak Under the Microscope

Osimhen, who recently completed a full 90 minutes in a match, has now endured a three-game scoring drought since his return from an injury that sidelined him for over a month. This challenging period includes instances where he failed to convert chances even with assistance, such as against Kasimpasa, and also drew a blank during his club's UEFA Champions League loss to Barcelona.

Ateş Highlights Attitude and Tactical Choices

Necati Ateş was particularly candid in his assessment of Osimhen’s demeanor when he is not finding the back of the net. Beyond the perceived issues with body language, the former forward also took issue with Osimhen's tactical choices in front of goal. Ateş argued that Osimhen frequently opted to shoot in situations where a pass to a better-positioned teammate would have been the more astute decision.

Ateş suggested that while Osimhen's powerful instinct to score is generally a strength, it can sometimes work to the detriment of his team, especially when individual goal-scoring opportunities are not consistently falling for him.

Significant Season Contribution Despite Criticism

Despite the recent wave of criticism, Victor Osimhen's overall contribution to his team's campaign this season remains substantial. According to Transfermarkt, the prolific striker has recorded an impressive six goals and three assists since the start of the current season, a notable tally achieved even with his extended absence due to injury.

Coach Buruk Addresses Team Performance

Meanwhile, Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk also commented on his team's performance after their hard-fought win against Gençlerbirliği, which was ultimately secured by a late own goal. Buruk acknowledged that factors such as fixture congestion and the poor condition of the pitch affected his players' gameplay. However, he stressed the need for his squad to elevate their performance levels moving forward.
