Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has visited Malam Ahmed Abubakar Zakka, his wife, Nafisah, and their six-month-old daughter, Fatima, at the Kaduna State Government safe house, where they are receiving medical care following their release from bandits’ captivity.
The visit comes days after the family regained their freedom on October 15, 2026, following nine days in captivity after being abducted from their residence in Alrahus Estate, Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The abduction occurred on October 6 and attracted nationwide attention after a disturbing video circulated on social media showing Zakka holding his crying infant daughter while an armed man pointed a gun at him. His wife could also be heard pleading with their captors.
In the video, Zakka appealed to Nigerians for assistance, reportedly disclosing that the abductors were demanding ₦300 million for the family’s release. Details surrounding how the family eventually regained their freedom, including whether any ransom was paid, were not immediately clear in reports of their release.
During his visit to the family on Tuesday, October 20, Governor Uba Sani expressed encouragement over their recovery and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring they receive the necessary support.
The governor pledged that the Kaduna State Government would provide the family with a home, cover all their medical expenses and ensure sustained psychosocial care to help them recover from the trauma, rebuild their lives and regain a sense of security.
He described their ordeal as a painful reminder of the human cost of insecurity and the responsibility of government to protect lives and restore peace across communities.
Uba Sani said he conveyed the state government’s solidarity to the family and assured them that the support would extend beyond the visit.
He added that their freedom had strengthened his administration’s resolve to confront banditry and other criminal activities through closer cooperation with security agencies, improved security coordination and deeper engagement with communities.
“Every resident deserves to live without fear, and we will continue working to fulfil that obligation,” the governor stated.
The governor also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his personal engagement and concern for the family’s safety.
He commended the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the nation’s security agencies for their contributions to securing the family’s safe return.
According to Uba Sani, Malam Ahmed expressed gratitude to the Federal and Kaduna State Governments, as well as the security agencies, for their concerted efforts and compassion.
The governor noted that the family’s appreciation for the care they were receiving and their confidence in recovery offered encouragement as they began the process of healing.
He assured the family that their wellbeing would remain a priority for his administration in the months ahead.
