HOME BECOMES A CRIME SCENE: HOW POLICE UNRAVELLED THE DEATHS OF 5-YEAR-OLD HABIBA AND 6-YEAR-OLD MUBARAK, A CASE OF CULPABLE HOMICIDE
_Two little children who should have been playing, laughing and going to school, their lives cut short in the most painful way._
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects linked to the tragic deaths of two innocent children in Alkaleri and Ganjuwa, in cases that have thrown their communities into mourning.
CASE 1: KWAIMAWAWA, ALKALERI - A MOTHER'S WORST NIGHTMARE
_Little Mubarak Ibrahim was only 6 years old._
On 16th October, 2026 at about 1600hrs, his world changed after he allegedly took a drink given to him by his stepmother, one Fatima Ibrahim, 23 years old, of Kwaimawa village.
Moments later, the cheerful boy started vomiting uncontrollably. His family panicked, rushed him to PHC Kwaimawa, then to FMC Gombe where doctors battled to save him.
For eight days, he fought for his life. On 24th October, 2026, he lost the battle. A doctor confirmed him dead.
A home that should protect a child became the place his life ended.
Following a report by the Village Head of Kwaimawa, detectives swung into action and arrested the suspect. She is now in custody as investigation continues.
CASE 2: ZAILA VILLAGE, GANJUWA - THE LITTLE GIRL WHO NEVER RETURNED
_Habiba Abubakar was only 5. A small girl staying with her aunt in Zaila Village._
On 23rd October, 2026 at about 1900hrs, her grandfather, a resident of Badaromo Village, reported she was missing. The whole village searched. They called her name until nightfall. No answer.
At dawn on 24th October, 2026 at about 0700hrs, hope turned to horror, her tiny body was found abandoned in a small water pit behind the village.
A 5-year-old girl, alone, lifeless in a pit.
Upon receiving the report, Police operatives from Soro Division cordoned off the scene and arrested one Sadiku Musa 'M' 19 years old of same address in connection with the heinous act.
No parent, no grandparent should bury a 5-year-old like this.
Both cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi for discreet and thorough investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc(+), has described the incidents as heartbreaking and inhuman.
“These are innocent souls. Children who looked up to adults for protection. We will ensure that justice speaks for Habiba and Mubarak,” the CP vowed, while commiserating with their families.
He urges parents, guardians and community leaders to watch over their children more closely and to promptly report strange persons or suspicious movements.
