Planning Ministry Urges Developers to Obtain Building Approval Before Construction.

By Ruth Orji

The Anambra State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has urged developers across the state to obtain building permits before erecting any structure in any part of the state.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barr. Chijioke Ojukwu, stated this in a press release.

According to him, developers should take the necessary steps by making enquiries from the appropriate authorities, who would provide the necessary guidance and direct them on the proper procedures for building in the state..

Ojukwu explained that developers would be enlightened on proper right-of-way and setback requirements, the need to construct adequate drainage channels,  avoid corridors of high tension electricity and the importance of ensuring that their proposed buildings are properly located. He noted that observing these requirements would help prevent costly mistakes.

He said the requirements apply to developers intending to construct residential houses, churches, business premises and other structures, stressing that a building permit is required before construction.

The statement noted that any building erected without the appropriate approval could attract enforcement action, which may be followed by demolition.

The commissioner therefore urged developers to visit the nearest Physical Planning office to seek clarification, make the necessary enquiries and obtain the required approval before commencing construction.

While advocating on the need to build legal, build safe and build smart.
