 OPERATION ENDURING PEACE: TROOPS RESPOND TO DISTRESS CALL IN BASSA, REAFFIRM COMMITMENT TO PEACE AND SECURITY Headquarters Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF-OPEP), has noted the circulation of a viral video concerning an encounter between troops and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. The Headquarters wishes to clarify the operational circumstances surrounding the incident.  On 20 October 2026, troops of Sector 3, Operation ENDURING PEACE, responded to a distress call reporting sporadic gunfire in Mai Farin Moto, Maraban Dere and adjoining communities, alongside reports of the killing of a local resident, Mr Adamu Suleiman. The troops were deployed to the affected area to assess the security situation, establish the circumstances of the incident, prevent escalation and protect lives and property.  SDP PARLEYS MEDIA AHEAD OF 2027 GENERAL ELECTIONS 


The Social Democratic Party, SDP has disassociated itself from those calling for the rescheduling of the 2027 general elections due to the confirmed case of Ebola in Nigeria.


A statement by the Presidential candidate of the Party, Prince Adewole Adebayo indicates that just one case of the disease recorded is not enough to cancel or reschedule the election that is already at hand, as the situation is not yet a pandemic. He explains that the country has the ability to take care of the situation.


The statement further encourages the media to be as independent and unbiased as possible in reporting the forthcoming general election.


It emphasises the media's role in sustaining democratic governance in the country.


The SDP Presidential candidate encourages media practitioners to get acquainted with the party's manifesto and enlighten the public adequately, enabling them to actively engage the party during campaigns.
