Speaker Abbas Empowers Zaria Youths, Women With Vehicles, Motorcycles To Boost Businesses

Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State has commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, for empowering youths, women and other residents of Zaria with vehicles, motorcycles and other equipment to boost their businesses.

Sani, represented by the Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Dr Abdulkadir Mu'azu Meyere, gave the commendation at the distribution of the empowerment items in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

He said the initiative demonstrated Abbas' commitment to improving residents' welfare, promoting self-reliance and supporting community development.

The governor urged the beneficiaries to use the items responsibly to establish and sustain businesses, improve their livelihoods and contribute to the local economy.

He also called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to strengthen the party and mobilise support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abbas said the programme was designed to promote economic participation by equipping beneficiaries with the tools and resources needed to transform their skills into productive ventures.

“This is not charity. It is an investment in productivity. The objective is not to make beneficiaries dependent on public officials, but to help them build sustainable businesses,” he said.

The Speaker urged the beneficiaries to manage their resources responsibly, maintain proper financial records, save part of their earnings and ensure regular maintenance of the equipment.

He stressed that access to equipment alone could not guarantee success without discipline, commitment and effective business management.

Abbas also encouraged the beneficiaries to embrace cooperative ventures to reduce operational costs, improve market access and strengthen their businesses.

He noted that empowering women economically would benefit entire households, particularly by improving children's access to education, nutrition and healthcare.

He added that equipping young people with skills, capital and market access would promote self-reliance, dignity and community stability.

Abbas said his interventions in education, skills acquisition and economic empowerment were aimed at linking knowledge and competence with employment opportunities.

He acknowledged the economic challenges Nigerians had faced amid the ongoing reforms of President Bola Tinubu's administration, urging the government to translate economic gains into improved living conditions.

The Speaker called for mentoring, further training and effective monitoring of beneficiaries to assess the programme's impact on businesses, incomes and employment.

He also urged officials to ensure fairness in the selection of beneficiaries, stressing that political connections should not take precedence over genuine need and merit.

Abbas cautioned the beneficiaries against selling or abandoning the items, urging them to use the support for its intended purpose.

He further urged residents of Zaria Federal Constituency and Kaduna State to support Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027, as well as Gov. Uba Sani and other APC candidates.

Earlier, the Chairman of Zaria Local Government Area, Jamil Ahmed Muhammad, said the council had sustained empowerment initiatives targeting party members, youths and community groups.

Muhammad said previous interventions included the distribution of motorcycles, grinding machines and sewing machines to support beneficiaries' livelihoods.

He added that the latest programme would also benefit party executives and former executives, alongside groups involved in community and religious activities.

The chairman said the council would provide motorcycles to selected groups to facilitate their activities and improve their operational capacity.

According to him, the empowerment programme forms part of broader efforts to improve the welfare of APC members and other residents.

Muhammad commended Tinubu, Gov. Uba Sani and Abbas for supporting development initiatives across Zaria and other parts of Kaduna State.

He also urged party members to mobilise support for APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
