 Anambra Govt Warns Against Purchase of Encroached Land at Trans-Nkissi By MaryAnn Chukwuma The Anambra State Ministry of Lands has warned members of the public against purchasing plots at TransNkissi Phase 1, behind the Federal Government Girls College, Onitsha, from persons claiming ownership on behalf of the Umuosodi family of Onitsha. The warning was contained in a public notice dated Sept. 28, 2026, with Ref. No. PS/ML/2026/CR/VOL.II/028 and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Nkeiru Mokwe, for the Commissioner. According to the notice, the Ministry became aware that persons alleged to be members of the Umuosodi family had invaded and commenced clearing portions of the land with the intention of selling them to unsuspecting members of the public. It said compensatory plots had been allocated to the family and other families in Onitsha before the current administration. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, recieved a delegation led by the Executive Director Police Services, INTERPOL, Mr Stephen Kavanagh, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, today Tuesday January 17, 2023. The meeting explored avenues to strengthen the existing collaboration between the NPF and INTERPOL in intelligence sharing, data collation and sharing, and swift responses to cybercrimes and other security threats to Nigeria and other neighbouring nations. 3 persons in Nigeria wealthier than 83m Nigerians — Oxfam 17 January 2023  Oxfam in Nigeria has said three of the richest Nigerian citizens are wealthier than 83 million others put together. This is contained in a report titled ‘Davos 2023 Inequality Report’ unveiled at a media briefing on Monday in Abuja. Ahead of the global conference of world leaders scheduled for next week in Davos Switzerland, Country Director, Oxfam in Nigeria, Dr. Vincent Ahonsi, presented the report. Property Auction:  19 Bidders Emerge in Final Bids for Forfeited Properties As the curtain is drawn on the ongoing sales of forfeited properties,  nineteen (19)  successful fresh bids were recorded on Monday,  January 16,  2023,  being  the final day of the sales. The properties were forfeited to the government,  being proceeds of crime established through judicial processes by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,  EFCC.   During Monday's bidding  exercise, there were fresh bids  for all the unsold properties in Lot 4,5,6,7,8 and 9 where 19 successful bidders emerged. Obasanjo Leads 18Km Walk In Abeokuta During BBHS Centenary Celebration  Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday led current and old students of Baptist Boys High School (BBHS), Abeokuta on an 18km walk round Abeokuta, as part of activities to mark the centenary celebrations of the school. Obasanjo who was joined by the leadership of the old boys association, led by the National President, Prof. Kayode Oyesiku and large numbers of the current students entertained residents, motorists and passers-by on the walk. They walked amid singing of the school anthem among other songs, through Oke Egunya, Igbore, Oke Igbein, and at Omida the palace of Oba Omolade. Thereafter, the walkers moved to the Ibara Housing Estate, the residence of Soleye. Subsequently, the team took the walk again to Ake, the palace of Oba Gbadebo. Our Biggest Challenge In South-East Is Peter Obi Of Labour Party - Saraki Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki said Peter Obi’s Labour Party, LP is the biggest challenge of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the South-East region of the country. Saraki made this submission during an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Monday. He said, “South-South is a strong PDP area. We will do very well in South-South, South-East, the challenge we have there, of course, is Labour. “But we will still do well in the South-East and take our 25 per cent. We will do well in North Central, we will do well in North-West and North-East,” he said. “We need four zones. By the time you have four zones, you will win the election. “The four zones that we will win are North-west, North-east, South-south and North-central, and we will take our 25 per cent more than 24 states. There is no doubt about that,” he added.

Mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro is arrested in Palermo after 30 years on the run.  Matteo Messina Denaro is thought to be the leader of the notorious Cosa Nostra organized crime group. He was apprehended at a medical clinic in the Sicilian capital, Palermo. He was sentenced to life in prison for dozens of murders including his involvement in the assassinations of Judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in 1992. As he was taken away in a black SUV, people on the street in Palermo cheered and clapped. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in a statement that the arrest was “a great victory for the state that shows it never gives up in the face of the Mafia.” Gen. Pasquale Angelosanto, who leads the Carabinieri’s special operations squad, said Messina Denaro was arrested at a private clinic in Palermo where he was being treated for an unspecified medical issue.
