 Anambra Govt Warns Against Purchase of Encroached Land at Trans-Nkissi By MaryAnn Chukwuma The Anambra State Ministry of Lands has warned members of the public against purchasing plots at TransNkissi Phase 1, behind the Federal Government Girls College, Onitsha, from persons claiming ownership on behalf of the Umuosodi family of Onitsha. The warning was contained in a public notice dated Sept. 28, 2026, with Ref. No. PS/ML/2026/CR/VOL.II/028 and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Nkeiru Mokwe, for the Commissioner. According to the notice, the Ministry became aware that persons alleged to be members of the Umuosodi family had invaded and commenced clearing portions of the land with the intention of selling them to unsuspecting members of the public. It said compensatory plots had been allocated to the family and other families in Onitsha before the current administration.  Old currency: You target the rich but will harm the poor, extend deadline, NLC tells CBN  27 January 2023  President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba, on Thursday, joined the Red Chamber of the National Assembly on the call for the Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN), to extend the date for the stoppage of the use of the highest denominations of Nigeria’s currency. Comrade Wabba made this call when he responded to questions during a media engagement with members of the Labour Correspondents Association of Nigeria (LACAN) in Abuja. The NLC President strongly kicked against the insistence of the CBN to implement its policy on none usage of N1000, N500 and N200 note in Nigeria starting from January 31st. 27 January 2023  Defence Spokesman, Major General Musa Danmadami, given an assurance on Thursday that the forthcoming general elections will hold across the country including the South East zone of the country. According to him, Nigerian military would not allow those planning to ferment trouble in any part of the country to go scot free. Lassa Fever: Anambra Records One Death, 15 Suspected Cases  …as government constitutes contact tracing teams to follow up on Lassa fever cases The Anambra State Government has confirmed one death and fifteen suspected cases of Lassa Fever in the state since January. Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, who disclosed this to reporters on Thursday, said the state’s emergency response team was already responding to the recorded cases while relevant surveillance measures were in place to curtail disease spread. He further said government had constituted contact tracing teams to follow up on the cases. He said, “So far in Anambra state, we have recorded 15 suspected cases of Lassa fever and one death. “The ministry is following the National guidelines in managing the cases of Lassa fever in the state. LASG ISSUES TRAVEL ADVISORY AHEAD OF STUDENTS RAVE EVENT  The Lagos State Government has advised Motorists to plan their movement around Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Old Onikan Stadium, Lagos Island ahead of the Students Rave 2023 event scheduled for Friday, 27th January, 2023.  A statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde said that traffic will be restricted between Police Zonal Headquarters, Zone II and Onikan Roundabout from 7:00 am on the day. ICPC Re-arrests Ex-JAMB Registrar, Ojerinde The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has re-arrested the former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Adedibu Ojerinde, on Thursday in Abuja. Prof. Ojerinde’s re-arrest followed a warrant issued by the Federal High Court, Abuja. He is expected to face a team of investigators over new evidence uncovered in relation to his ongoing trial for diversion of funds while he was a public officer. ICPC operatives uncovered two accounts opened in the names of Trillium Learning Centre Ltd and Sapati International Schools Ltd into which funds were diverted using fictitious names of students. The Commission had on the 12th December, 2022, invited the former JAMB Registrar for questioning over the new evidence but he wrote through his solicitor requesting for 14 days grace to enable him honour the invitation.
