 [ASSEN SAPS MEMBERS ASSIST WOMAN IN GIVING BIRTH AT POLICE STATION] Assen SAPS members assisted a female suspect who went into labour at the police station on Thursday, 8 October 2026, helping her deliver a healthy baby girl before she and the newborn were taken to a medical facility. According to reports, members were on duty at Assen SAPS under the command of Sergeant Chidi, when they received a telephone call regarding the arrest of a female suspect at Msholozi informal settlement in Kameeldrift. Constable Olivier and Constable Mokhutshoane responded to the call and arrested the suspect, who was reportedly in good health and had no visible injuries at the time of the arrest. She was subsequently taken to Assen SAPS. While at the police station, the suspect began experiencing labour pains and an ambulance was immediatly summond. ICPC Secures 7 Years Conviction of Fraudsters Over Crude Oil Racketeering The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has secured a 7-year conviction of two fraudsters, Aso Adasa Morrison and Frank Biobarakuma. The suspects were first arraigned sometime in March 2013 before Hon. Justice B. A. Georgewill of Rivers State High Court 16 on a 17-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery and obtaining by false pretence. The court was informed of how the convicts and others at large between the month of March 2012 and February 2013 in Port Harcourt, fraudulently obtained the sum of $260,000 and $402,300 from one Mr. Jung Yongmin, a South Korean, under the pretext of selling Nigerian crude oil to him. Their actions were contrary to Sections 1 and 8 of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2004 and Section 467 of the Criminal Code Act, 2004. BENUE GOVT WANTS CBN TO RELEASE N62 BILLION INTERVENTION FUNDS 18th May, 2023   Benue State Government has Implored the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to as a matter of urgency release to it the sum of sixty two billion naira intervention funds, which he said other states of the federation have accessed. Briefing Journalists shortly after the State Executive Council, SEC, meeting held at the Government House Makurdi, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Michael Inalegu explained that out of the said amount, the sum of twenty billion is to be expended for infrastructural development, while forty two billion is meant for payment of Salaries and pensions. Nigeria Heading For Debt Crisis, Govs Warn May 18, 2023      Some state governors have voiced their dismay over Nigeria’s escalating debt profile, with fears that the country could face severe consequences if immediate measures are not taken to reverse the trend. The governors spoke yesterday at the sidelines of the 2023 induction for re-elected and elected governors with the theme: Governing for Impact (Building Sub-national Governance), organised by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) at the presidential villa, Abuja. Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed expressed his concern that Nigeria’s debt servicing requirement currently stands at approximately 95 percent of its revenue. He cautioned that without intervention, the country was the risk of financial collapse. This is in furtherance of the pledge by the Prof. Is-haq Oloyede-led management, on assumption of duty, that it would leverage on technology and discipline to manage the affairs of the Board. UNBELIEVABLE: Court Sets Suspected Killers Of Deborah Free May 18, 2023 Any chance of finding justice for late Deborah Samuel, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, who was violently murdered by fellow students might have been lost as a Sokoto State Magistrate Court has set the suspects free. Two suspects Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunchi were arrested on the 16th of May, 2022 over Deborah’s brutal killing by her fellow students that accused her of blasphemy. The entire incident was captured on camera and circulated over the internet. In the videos, her assailants bragged and celebrated ending her life while showing the matchbox from which they drew matchsticks to burn her with. They were arraigned at before a Chief Magistrate, Shuaibu Ahmad, in Gwiwa area of the state. However, a court document published by FIJ suggests that the suspects are now free because the police ‘deliberately’, failed to prosecute the suspects.
