 [ASSEN SAPS MEMBERS ASSIST WOMAN IN GIVING BIRTH AT POLICE STATION] Assen SAPS members assisted a female suspect who went into labour at the police station on Thursday, 8 October 2026, helping her deliver a healthy baby girl before she and the newborn were taken to a medical facility. According to reports, members were on duty at Assen SAPS under the command of Sergeant Chidi, when they received a telephone call regarding the arrest of a female suspect at Msholozi informal settlement in Kameeldrift. Constable Olivier and Constable Mokhutshoane responded to the call and arrested the suspect, who was reportedly in good health and had no visible injuries at the time of the arrest. She was subsequently taken to Assen SAPS. While at the police station, the suspect began experiencing labour pains and an ambulance was immediatly summond. June 21, 2023 Press Release  ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT  SUSPENSION OF INAUGURATION AND WITHDRAWAL OF LIST OF THE NEWLY-APPOINTED MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS FOR MARKETS IN ABA AND UMUAHIA  This is to inform the general public and, particularly, the various market groups in Aba and Umuahia, that the planned inauguration of the newly appointed Management Committee Members for markets, scheduled for Thursday, June 22, 2023, is hereby suspended. Government also by this notice, withdraws the list of those earlier appointed into the Management Committees of the various markets. A new date for the inauguration will be announced in due course. IGP EGBETOKUN ASSUMES DUTY AS 22ND INDIGENOUS INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE   • AS FORMER IGP USMAN ALKALI BABA RETIRES FROM SERVICE   The Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Egbetokun Olukayode Adeolu, PhD, NPM, today, 21st June, 2023 assumed duty as the Inspector General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was appointed by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on 19th June, 2023. He takes over from IGP Usman Alkali Baba, fdc, CFR, who retired after 35years of meritorious service to the nation. Don’t live in a fool’s paradise - White garment church cleric, Prophet Gabriel Evans tackles Pastor David Ibiyeomie A White garment church cleric, Prophet Gabriel Evans has warned Salvation Ministries founder, Pastor David Ibiyeomie against “living in a fool's paradise” following his recent comment about the church.  The cleric who lashed out at Ibiyeomie for saying he “hates” white garment churches over some of their practices, accused him of deviating from Jesus’ message which is “love”. Prophet Evans who stated that the word “hate” shouldn’t be coming from a Pastor like Ibiyeomie, also said that they’ve not categorised Pentecostal churches as frauds with the actions of some of their pastors. Agency Donates Items to inmates at Aguata, Nnewi Correctional Centres   Ebele iyke odili The Director, Agency for Mass Literacy Adult and non formal Education, Mrs Ebele Ononihu, says the Agency is concerned about the comfort of the inmates, especially those qualified to take the Basic Education Certificate examination. The Agency has donated items to Aguata and Nnewi correctional, respectively, to provide comfort during the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the state. The items donated, through prisons officials include reading tables and chairs, instructional materials (pencil, pen, text books, exercise books, ereaser). "With these gift items, the inmates are assured of quality teaching and learning as well as comfortable sitting arrangements for the ongoing examination".  NAIRA SURGES AGAINST US DOLLAR, TRADES AT N758/$1 AT PARALLEL MARKET  The Nigerian Naira delivered an impressive performance, experiencing a significant surge against the US Dollar at black market.  On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, the Naira traded at an average exchange rate of N758/$1, marking a remarkable increase of 2.82% compared to the previous day’s trading session where the Dollar was valued at N780/$1. Reports from BDC traders, confirmed this exhilarating upward trend, sparking interest among market participants. However, the Naira faced a considerable decline against the British Pound, trading at an average exchange rate of N970/£1 on June 21, 2023.  This indicates a 1.78% decrease compared to the exchange rate of N953/£1 recorded in the previous trading session on Tuesday, June 20th, 2023. 102 STRANDED EVACUEES FROM LIBYA ARRIVE NIGERIA  No fewer than 102 stranded Nigerians evacuated from Libya were received on Wednesday by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Lagos. The returnees were officially received by Mr Mustapha Ahmed, Director-General, NEMA, on behalf of the Federal Government, according to the agency’s statement made available to newsmen. The statement said of the 102 returnees, 96 were females, two males and four infants. It added that the returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, late Tuesday evening aboard an Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 with registration number 5A-DMG.

KANO GOV REINSTATES MAGAJI AS ANTI CORRUPTION BOSS  The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the reinstatement of Barr. Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado as Chairman of the Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission, PCACC, to complete his tenure. Recall that Barr. Muhyi was suspended from office by the previous administration in questionable circumstances. This is contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature. The reinstatement is with immediate effect and in compliance with court order .
