 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. *File Photo: Activity at a vandalised oil pipe               Six suspects were arrested by special task force on anti pipeline vandalism unit,including a 65 year old man salami amodu who thought the petrol was holy water.The other people arrested  were bruce ekonen,joseph ofoeyeno,francis ode and kola ifatoye with about 100 gallons of PMS alleged to have been vandalized from Nigerian National Petroleum  Corporation ,NNPC pipe line at idimagboro in sagamu area of ogun state.The 65 year old baba claimed he was on his way back home when one alfa stopped him,promised to pay him N5,000 per trip if he can help him carry 10 gallons of liquid.he thought it was holy water so he didnt bother to ask since it 's a good business.it was while he was carrying the gallons that he percieved the odour of fuel.he was very angry at the alfa and wanted to off load the vehicle but realize that they were almost close to their destination  thats when he decided to continue.all the suspects will be arraigned in court at the end of all investigations.
