NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT. Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination. A reinforcement team from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision. A private jet has crashed and exploded in flames at the airport for Luxury ski resort town Aspen as horrified passengers looked on,killing at least one person on board.Three people were on the aircraft,including the pilot,when it crashed on the runway about 12.30pm local time,before over turning and bursting into flames.One was killed,one has major injuries and the other has moderate injuries.None of the three have been identified.The plane is said to have attempted a few approaches before crashing in a ball of fire.Emergency crews rushed to extinguish the flames and are currently investigating the cause of the crash.Singer Leann Rimes was among those who saw the explosion.More pictures below.
