  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed a viral claim circulating on social media about the introduction of new ₦5,000 and ₦10,000 banknotes, labeling it as fake news. The claim, which included fabricated images of the supposed new denominations featuring Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, falsely stated that the new notes would enter circulation from May 1, 2025. In a statement on its verified Facebook account, the CBN clarified that the content is not from the bank and directed the public to its official website, (www.cbn.gov.ng), for authentic information. The bank warned against spreading misinformation regarding monetary policies and urged Nigerians to rely only on official statements from its verified channels. Smoke billows from a building after an attack on a police station in Jalalabad              According to an international broadcasting network,Taliban fighters have killed at leats 10 policemen in an attack on a city in eastern Afghanistan.Gun battles started early morning today thursday in Jalabad after a multi prolonged attack by insurgents.Police said they shot dead seven attackers,all of them wearing suicide bomb vests.The attack comes after the Taliban vowed to disrupt the run up to presidential elections in the country on April 5.Ten policemen,including the district police chief,were killed and 14 police were wounded.Deputy interior minister Mohammad Ayoub Salangi says ''One civilian was also killed,and all seven attackers''.The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in a text message sent to the media.                          An Afghan army soldier runs into position next to the partly destroyed offices of a TV station

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
