 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Gabriel Suswam: convoy attacked                                                   The news that just got to my desk now is thar the Governor of Benue state,Governor Gabriel Suswam convoy was attacked today tuesday by suspected herdsmen.The Governor was on his way to Guma local Government Area of the state.The Governor was visiting the council on a fact finding mission following the continuous invasion of the area by hoodlums.The Governor's convoy was also attacked by the hoodlum at Tse-Akenyi and this led to an exchange of gun shots between Suswan's security guards and the herdsmen.The Governor ,who visited the people at Gbajimba,the council headquarters to sympatise with them,said thar the situation was disturbing ''People must defend themselves if the security operatives failed to do their job.I salute each and every one of you for your courage and steadfastness throughout this period.This is beyond the herdsmen,this is real war.On my way to this place,they exchanged gun shorts with us for over one hour before we were able to come here.My people are being killed,butchered and their homes destroyed,so if the security agents,especially the millitary,cannot provide security for us we will defend ourselves.I cannot abandon you people at this point in time to die.You voted me to provide security for you and that i must do that for you.These fulani are not like the real fulanis we used to know.Please return to your homes and defend your hand,do not allow anybody to make you slaves in your home land''.
