  1,800 teachers appointed in Kwara The Kwara state Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has shorlisted 1,800 applicants for teaching appointments in the state. This is contained in a statement issued by the Commission’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sam Onile, made available to newsmen in Ilorin. Onile said that the shortlisted applicants emerged from a screening exercise, which included computer based test, and interviews spanning over three months. ”The shortlisted comprises 790 (44%) for STEM subjects; 581 for core subjects; 370 for specialised subjects; and 59 for technical subjects. ”They will be assigned to senior secondary schools across the 16 local government areas of the state in line with the needs assessment of the commission,” he said. Onile advised applicants who appeared for the interviews to check their status on the portal, adding “those shortlisted will undergo a mandatory drug test to ascertain their suitability to teach children. ”The drug test will be carried out ...

SEVEN PEOPLE,KILLED IN ABUJA NATIONAL STADIUM.

Photo            Seven people have been killed in a stamped at Abuja's National Stadium during a recruitment drive for the immigration service,on saturday.Officials said only one entrance to the 60,000 capacity stadium was open during the aptitude test for applicants to join the immigration service.Seven people were counted at the National Hospital,where the dead and injured were taken.Tayo Haastrup,spokeman of the hospital said,there were several injured in a critical but stable condition.Olisa Metua,the spoke man for the Peoples Democratic party {PDP}says ''We are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the untimely death of the young citizens who  were at the exercise not only to secure jobs but to be allowed the opportunity to contribute towards the development of the nation''.                                                                                         Applicants struggle to submit copies of their acknowledgement forms to an immigration officer during a recruitment drive for the Nigeria Immigration Service at the National Stadium in Abuja March 15, 2014.  Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
