 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. REUTERS-Siphiwe Sibeko                                           Today at the trial of Olympic and paralympic track star,Oscar Pistorius,was alleged to have killed his girlfriend was accused by the prosecutor that he likes blaming other people for his mistakes as he sought to prove that Oscar murdered his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on valentine's day last year.He may face life imprisonment if convicted in the Pretoria High Court.Oscar claims he shot his girlfriend in a tragic accident,firing at what he thought was an intruder hiding behind a toilet door in his luxury Pretoria home on February 14 last year.With the trial now in the 19th day,the prosecutor Gerrie Nel,whose reputation as one of South African's toughest Attorneys has earned him the nickname ''The pitbull'',has sought to portray Oscar as an arrogant hot head who is reckless withfire arms.''You will blame anybody but yourself''.During cros examination,a different incident was mentioned,in which Oscar was asked about why he fired a gun in a restaurant.Oscar explained that the gun was given to him by a friend under the restaurant table and went off by itself but police Captain Christian Mangena gave evidence earlier in the trial,saying the weapon culd only fire if the trigger was pulled.Oscar quickly said he blamed his lawyer Mr Rous for not cross examining the captain on his evidence.The Prosecutor said,''now you are blaming your own lawyer'',that made Oscar lawyer to shake his head at a colleague.Oscar broke down and sobbed as the prosecutor pushed him repeatedly to take responsibility for killing his girlfriend.
