 NLC Cancels Centralized May Day Celebrations in Rivers, Edo Amid Governance and Interference Concerns The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has canceled centralized May Day celebrations in Rivers and Edo States, citing the imposition of emergency rule in Rivers and alleged political interference in the Edo State council. The decision, announced in letters dated April 22, 2025, and signed by NLC Deputy General Secretary Ismail Bello, directs affiliated unions in both states to hold Workers’ Day events on May 1, 2025, at their respective secretariats. In Rivers State, the NLC condemned the appointment of a sole administrator under emergency rule, calling for the restoration of elected governance. The letter to Rivers State NLC Chairman Alex Agwanwor instructed unions to organize a peaceful rally at the state NLC secretariat, focusing on advocating for democratic governance and improved worker welfare.                    According to sources,she was given an Ikenga Award in Enugu during the Easter break,in recognition of her contribution to the development of the aviation sector as minister.Oduah said ''It is a privilege,like i said,to serve Nigeria,to serve my nation.....a country where you have 170million people and you were given the opportunity to serve and make a difference,you leave a foot path behind,it is not easy,it is an honour and i am very greatful to Nigerians.I believe he {her successor} would follow the master plan to the letter,and really,anybody that does contrary to that is doing a disservice to the Nigerian people and there must be a continuation of the development of the development of the aviation sector.It must be manstreamed.President Goodluck Jonathan has started mainstreaming and that should continue because we do this for a very well developed aviation sector and if you look at it really,aviation is employment generally and contributes to nation's GDP,so why would it not be given priority?.It should be given priority and the president is doing that''.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
