Driver hospitalized after debris falls from Cross Bronx Expressway during morning rush hour One person was hospitalized Wednesday morning after debris fell from the Cross Bronx Expressway onto a vehicle during the rush-hour commute. The incident happened around 8 a.m. when material came down from the ceiling over a westbound lane of the expressway near the lower-level approach to the George Washington Bridge. Emergency responders transported the driver to a nearby hospital, where the person was expected to survive, according to fire officials. Westbound lanes were shut down for much of the day as crews worked to secure and repair the damaged section of the roadway. It was the second debris-related incident on the Cross Bronx Expressway within a week. In the earlier case, dashcam footage captured a large piece of concrete falling from an underpass in front of a vehicle, forcing the car to be towed after sustaining significant damage.
