 Shay Mitchell explained why she's not married, and people are divided Shay Mitchell is opening up about why she and longtime partner Matte Babel have chosen not to get married, despite being together for nearly a decade and raising two children. During a recent podcast appearance, the actress shared that their daughters have started asking why their parents aren't married.  Shay explained that she tells them she and Matte are committed life partners and that a wedding has simply never been something she felt she needed in order to have a happy and successful relationship. The actress also revealed that her oldest daughter has become fascinated with the idea of marriage, often asking questions about engagements and fairy-tale romances.  Shay said many movies and books present marriage as the ultimate happy ending, but she wants her children to understand that there are many ways to build a loving and fulfilling life.
