 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. A LASTMA OFFICIAL WAS STABBED ON THE JAW BY A BUS DRIVER AT LEKKI ROUNDABOUT.

Sulaimon Mojeed-Sanni             33 year old Habeeb Muniru was arrested by the police at Ilasan Division Lekki Lagos,after stabbing a LASMA official Adesanjo Ayodele on the jaw.He allegedly attacked Ayodele for arresting his colleague now at large for a traffic offence.The suspect was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court Lagos on a court charge of felony and also for stabbing occasioning bodily harm.The police prosecutor,Inspector Raji Akeem told the court that the accused committed the offence on 30th September,2014 at Jakande Roundabout,Lekki Lagos.He said the complainant reported the matter to the police that the accused stabbed himwith a weapon while on lawful duty.The accused picked an iron rod from his vehicle and stabbed him on his jaw,after he arrested him for a traffic offence.When the arrested driver discovered that blood was gushing out from his jaw,he fled the scene and abandoned his colleague to his fate.The suspect was granted bail of N20,000 with two sureties after he pleaded not guilty to the charge.The matter was adjourned to 21th of October 2014.
