VANDAL CRUSHED TO DEATH UNDER COLLAPSED TRANSMISSION TOWER IN DELTA STATE A suspected vandal has been crushed to death under a collapsed vandalised transmission tower along the 330kV Ughelli-Benin transmission line in Delta State. The incident was discovered during a line patrol carried out by the Delta Sub-Region, Lines Maintenance Department of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), following the tripping of the line on earth fault on the Ughelli - Benin 330kV Transmission line. A statement by the TCN indicates that the patrol team traced the fault to Tower 101, which had collapsed. The body of the suspected vandal was found crushed between the tower members. Tower 101 on the adjacent Ughelli - Sapele 330kV transmission line had also been vandalized.
According to Dr Isuwa Adamu,Director General,Nigerian Institute of Leather Science and Technology {NILEST},Zaria today tuesday warned against the consumption of animal and skin known locally as Ponmo.He said ''It is not advisable for you to consume ponmo in the sense that some of the animals killed and used for ponmo actually have skin diseases.Some of these skin diseases are such that boiling them ordinarily,may not kill the bacteria.Some of the animals because of the ailments that they have gone through,are sometimes treated by way of injection with chemicals.People don't allow these chemicals to complete its cycle and be removed from the body,they sometimes go ahead to kill these animals.So if you consume the ponmo,the tendency is that you are consuming the chemicals directly because the skin part of the animal retains most of the harmful substance.Remember your skin is the major protective organ of your body and your skin harbours so many of the harmful things that are supposed to penetrate into your body''.
