 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. THE NIGERIAN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT,BANS ALL ILLEGAL CAR STICKERS.

                            The Nigerian Federal Government,is becoming worried about the sale of illegal sales o stickers on the federal and state high ways,especially those claiming to be working for Association of Local Governments of Nigeria,ALGON,aided by the police used clubs and other weapons to attack motorists.The Joint Tax Board {JTB} sent a statement,through it secretary M.L Abubakar saying ''Over time,it has come to the notice of the JTB that certain persons are in the practice of producing various types of emblems and stickers and selling same to commercial motor vehicle owners,heavy  duty trucks and vehicles owned by companies under the guise of collecting tolls and levies for the government.These persons engaged in incessant harassments and molestation of road users to collect these illegal levies.Their activities constitute not only a nuisance,but also an embarassment to the general public and particularly,the tax authorities at the three tiers of government under whose guise they claim to collect these levies.With the introduction of our new emblem,any form of harassment or intimidation by any person or group of persons with respect to payments for emblem or any stickers other than the approved one should be reported to the nearest police station,tax office or any other law enforcement agency''.
