NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT. Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination. A reinforcement team from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision. According to sources,oil manufacturers Castrol,Tyre company Continental and Healthcare Company Johnson and Johnson have followed Emirates and Sony by choosing not to renew their contracts with FIFA that expired last year.Sources claimed that the three companies had deterred by allegations of corruption that have been leveled at FIFA following the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 world cups.Thierry Weil,FIFA Marketing Director said ''Rotations at the end of a sponsorship cycle are common place in the sports industry and have continuously occurred since the commercialisation of the FIFA World cup began.The contracts with with Castrol Continental and Johnson and Johnson were always planned to run until the end of 2014 and therefore expired on the 31th of December,2014 accordingly''.
