 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision. •Mercy John                                                                According to sources,Mercy John who was an officer attached to Provost Office State Police Command Headquarters,Ikeja Lagos,was accosted by armed robbers at about 6pm,yesterday tuesday,10 February around Egbeda Shasha area of Lagos state and she was ordered to lie down.According to a statement by DSP Ken Nwosu,the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer,said ''Mercy John and one other person were accosted by two armed robbers on motor bike and ordered to lie down.The NCO {Non Commissioned Officer Mercy John}refused to comply and also turned down the order to hand over her handbag.However,her companion out of fear complies.One of the men who accosted them brought out a locally made pistol,then Mercy John immediately on sighting the firearm,smartly and professionally grabbed the neck of the gun wielding hoodlum and hit his head on a nearby wall.The firearm fell down and she immediately grabbed it and the hoodlums sensing imminent danger,fled for their lives.The fleeing robbers are being trailed by the police,the female officer has since been approved for the commendation of the Commissioner of Police,as well as the IGP's commendation.The Commissioner of Police wishes to congratulate the NCO {Mercy John} for this uncommon act of bravery and urges her to keep it up''.
