Sudan urges displaced citizens abroad to return home Sudan has called on all displaced citizens living abroad to return home, as the government steps up efforts to facilitate voluntary repatriation and remove barriers facing returnees. Prime Minister Kamil Idris said his office is committed to easing the return process and ensuring citizens can actively contribute to rebuilding the country, state media SUNA reports. Speaking during a visit to the Ashkeit border crossing in Wadi Halfa, Idris said authorities have taken steps to eliminate illegal levies and ensure that returning citizens are not subjected to additional fees, compulsory charges or arbitrary customs duties. He noted that such practices had previously placed an unnecessary burden on citizens without benefiting the state. The extension of the collection of the Permanent Voters Card {PVC}to February 8,2015 by the Independent National Electoral Commission,was confirmed yesterday sunday via a statement by Kayode Idowu,the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of INEC,Prof Attahiru Jega.Kayode Idowu said ''The February 8 deadline for the collection of the PVC's supersedes the earlier deadline of January 31,2015,announced by the commission.It is intended to give registered voters yet to collect their PVC,the opportunity to do so in readiness for the February 2015 general elections.INEC hereby calls on duly registered persons not to delay in going to collect their cards before the expiration of the new deadline.The commission reaffirms its determination to make the 2015 elections free,fair,credible and peaceful and urges all stakeholders,including voters,to spare no effort in working forward the same objective''.
