 Senate Approves Death Penalty For Drug Traffickers The Senate has approved the death penalty for those convicted on the charge of drug trafficking in the country. The punishment prescribed in the extant NDLEA Act is a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The resolution of the Senate followed its consideration of a report of the Committees on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters and Drugs and Narcotics, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The Chairman of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights & Legal Matters presented the report during plenary, Sen.Mohammed Monguno (APC-Borno North). The bill, which passed its third reading, aims to update the list of dangerous drugs, strengthen the operations of the NDLEA, review penalties, and empower the establishment of laboratories. A STUDENT OF UNILAG,SHOT DEAD AFTER WATCHING ARSENAL MATCH ON TUESDAY.

                      According to sources,on tuesday night,a unilag student was shot dead after an argument with one of his friends over the outcome of the football match which the English premier leagues giants Arsenal won 0-2 against Monaco.A source within the institution disclosed that it was a case of good boys turned bad.Another source,who do not want to disclose his identity,but he was a former president of one of the hostels in the institution said ''That guy who was killed was not murdered by cultists.It was a case of football argument after the Arsenal/ Monaco match on tuesday night.People have been talking about cultists being in UNILAG,but i totally disagree with them on this.And even if they are in the institution,they do not carry out their activities within the school premises.So,there was no way a cultist would have killed a student of the institution right in front of the Amphitheatre''.Though another source said that it was because the boy was contesting for the post of Social Director in the school,that was why he was shot.
