 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.                     According to sources,the wife of Nigeria's out going president,Mrs Patience Jonathan is pulling all the necessary strings to stop wife of Nigeria's president elect,Aisha Buhari,from becoming the president of African First Lafies Peace Mission,AFLPM.Now a group of women who are sympathetic towards Aisha Buhari's cause,have decided to fight back on her behalf by going to court to stop Patience Jonathan's plot.The women Deborah Oboh,Ekemma Ugborough Arisa,Nana Module Omwodi and Louisa Ono Ekhomun,filed a suit at an Abuja High Court seeking to restrain Patience Jonathan from holding an emergency meeting of the AFLP,saying the meeting was called in bad faith to scuttle Aisha Buhar's chances of becoming the president of the group.Apart from patience jonathan,other defendants are Kate Duru,Juliet Mene,Sonia Adolf and Juliet Peace.The matter which is before Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf comes up today ahead of the AFLPM emergency meeting summoned by Patience Jonathan in Abuja on friday.The plaintiffs said Patience Jonathan became AFLPM President after Turai Yar'Adua stepped down following the death of her husband.They argued that the 3 year tenure of Patience Jonathan would expire in July 2015 when a new president is to be elected but Patience shifted the summit forward to prevent Aisha Buhari from becoming the groups president.Aisha will assume the role of the first lady only after Buhari has been sworn in on 29th May 2015.According to the plaintif ''The other African nation's who are members of the mission have unanimously agreed that the summit and election be held in July''.They are arguing that Patience Jonathan's decision to hold the summit on friday,two months before the expirations of the current tenure as ''Selfish and totally in bad faith''.One more photo below.
