 Tragedy Averted as 120-Year-Old Ancestral Tree Falls at Obosi Market By Chiedu Okoye A major tragedy was averted at Eke Obosi Market in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State after a 120-year-old ancestral tree collapsed, destroying shops and goods but leaving traders and visitors unharmed. The massive tree, estimated to be about 150 feet tall, fell within the market premises, damaging at least 12 shops and valuable merchandise. Residents and traders described the incident as miraculous, noting that no lives were lost despite the extent of the destruction. The fallen tree held significant cultural importance as a sacred symbol of Eke Obosi Market, which is regarded as a stronghold of the traditions and cultural heritage of the Obosi people. Beyond serving as a centre for commercial activities, the market is also known as a venue for communal traditional rites and ceremonies. THE NIGERIAN ARMY,DISMISSED 290 SOLDIERS YESTERDAY-FALANA.

                  The soldiers were dismissed for allegedly refusing to fight the Boko Haram insurgents.Human rights Layer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria {SAN} Femi Falana disclosed this today thursday.According to Falana disclosed this today thursday.According to Falana he said ''I have just confirmed that a total of 290 soldiers were dismissed yesterday wednesday by the authorities of the Nigerian Army.This letters of dismissal were distributed in Jos,Plateau state and Ibadan,Oyo state.Before the dismissal,the soldiers were subjected to orderly room trial.Even though they pleaded not guilty to the charges of cowardice and failure to fight the Boko Haram sect,the dismissed soldiers were not tried by any court martial in line with the provisions of the Armed forces Act.It would be recalled that the Nigerian Army also sacked another batch of 200 soldiers i similar circumstances in December last year.A part from the deliberate refusal of the military authorities to respect the fundamental right of the dismissed soldiers to fair hearing guaranteed by the constitution,the punishment meted out to them cannot be justified since the Federal Government failed to equip the armed forces at the material time.Indeed,the belated onslaught launched against the satanic Boko Haram sectby the government.In the light of the foregoing,the authorities of the Nigerian Army should annul the illegal letters and recall the dismissed soldiers without any delay.In the alternative,a programme should be designed for the rehabilitation of the dismissed soldiers.Otherwise many of them may be driven to criminality since they had been given military training at the expense of the nation''.
