 Rita Daniels Loses AGN Presidency To Abubakar Yakubu Abubakar Yakubu has emerged as the new president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) after narrowly defeating Rita Daniels in a closely contested election. The poll was held on Saturday during the guild’s annual general meeting in Benin City, Edo State. Yakubu secured 116 votes to beat Daniels, who polled 113 votes, while three votes were declared invalid. The veteran actor and administrator takes over from Emeka Rollas. His victory is historic, as he becomes the first AGN president from northern Nigeria since the guild’s official registration in 1998. Yakubu previously served as national secretary from 2019 to 2025 and has also held other positions including national vice president, national treasurer, and public relations officer. A graduate of Dramatic Arts from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, the Kaduna-born actor brings over 25 years of experience in television, film, and stage productions to his new role. THE NIGERIAN ARMY,DISMISSED 290 SOLDIERS YESTERDAY-FALANA.

                  The soldiers were dismissed for allegedly refusing to fight the Boko Haram insurgents.Human rights Layer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria {SAN} Femi Falana disclosed this today thursday.According to Falana disclosed this today thursday.According to Falana he said ''I have just confirmed that a total of 290 soldiers were dismissed yesterday wednesday by the authorities of the Nigerian Army.This letters of dismissal were distributed in Jos,Plateau state and Ibadan,Oyo state.Before the dismissal,the soldiers were subjected to orderly room trial.Even though they pleaded not guilty to the charges of cowardice and failure to fight the Boko Haram sect,the dismissed soldiers were not tried by any court martial in line with the provisions of the Armed forces Act.It would be recalled that the Nigerian Army also sacked another batch of 200 soldiers i similar circumstances in December last year.A part from the deliberate refusal of the military authorities to respect the fundamental right of the dismissed soldiers to fair hearing guaranteed by the constitution,the punishment meted out to them cannot be justified since the Federal Government failed to equip the armed forces at the material time.Indeed,the belated onslaught launched against the satanic Boko Haram sectby the government.In the light of the foregoing,the authorities of the Nigerian Army should annul the illegal letters and recall the dismissed soldiers without any delay.In the alternative,a programme should be designed for the rehabilitation of the dismissed soldiers.Otherwise many of them may be driven to criminality since they had been given military training at the expense of the nation''.
