 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Obasa: Elected as Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly                   Accordig to sources,fourth term member of the Lagos stste House of Assembly and representative of Agege constituency 1,Mudashiru Obas,was today monday elected as the Speaker for the eight session of the state Assembly.His election confirmed an earlier report last week that Obasa had been endorsed for the position at a meeting of the leaders of the All Progressives Congress,APC and members elect of the House.Obasa was proposed as the Speaker by one of his major contenders,Moshood Oshun,representing Lagos Mainland Constituency 2.Moshood Oshun motion was seconded by Sola Giwa,a fresh law maker for the Lagos Island Constituency 2.Obasa accepted the nomination at exactly 11:15am today monday.Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni was nominated and approved for the position of Deputy Speaker of the House by another Lawmaker,Gbolahan Yishawu,representing Et-Osa Constituency 2.Minutes before the election of principal officers,the House was inaugurated by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode,who said he was doing as required of him by the Nigerian constitution.In a short address to inaugurate the House,Ambode congratulated the members on their election and charged them to be good ambassadors of their various constituencies.
