ASUU–ABSU SUSPENDS THREE-WEEK-OLD INDEFINITE STRIKE The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abia State University Branch, wishes to inform the University community, all stakeholders and the general public that, following the resolution of Congress held today, Friday, 28th August, 2026, the Branch has suspended its three-week-old comprehensive industrial action with immediate effect. The decision of Congress followed a careful assessment of developments since the commencement of the strike and, particularly, the concrete steps taken towards addressing some of the major issues that necessitated the industrial action. Foremost among these is the full implementation of the 2025 FGN–ASUU salary structure, including the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), which has now been reflected in the August 2026 salaries of academic staff of Abia State University. Todat tuesday,a statement issued by the Special Adviser {Media and Publicity} to the President,Mr Femi Adesina said the president would have preferred that APC process of electing leaders been followed.Adesina said ''Nonetheless the president took the view that a constitutional process has somewhat occurred.President Buhari had said in an earlier statement that he did not have any preferred candidate for the senate and the House of Representatives,and that he was willing to work with whoever the lawmakers elected.That sentiment still stands.Though he would have preferred the new leaders to have emerged through the process established by the party''.Adesina stressed that the main concerns of President Buhari are the stability of our constitutional order and overall interest of the common man.The President called on all the elected representatives of the people to focus on the enormous task of bring enduring positive change to the lives of Nigerian.More photos below.
