ASUU–ABSU SUSPENDS THREE-WEEK-OLD INDEFINITE STRIKE The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abia State University Branch, wishes to inform the University community, all stakeholders and the general public that, following the resolution of Congress held today, Friday, 28th August, 2026, the Branch has suspended its three-week-old comprehensive industrial action with immediate effect. The decision of Congress followed a careful assessment of developments since the commencement of the strike and, particularly, the concrete steps taken towards addressing some of the major issues that necessitated the industrial action. Foremost among these is the full implementation of the 2025 FGN–ASUU salary structure, including the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), which has now been reflected in the August 2026 salaries of academic staff of Abia State University. According to sources,a 26 year old house boy David Idah who murdered a retired Senior Magistrate Mrs Olufunmilayo Timeyin,was today wednesday sentenced to death.Justice Abiodun Akinyemi today wednesday sentenced the accused who hails from Benue state and worked as a domestic aide for the late senior magistrate,to death by hanging.The convict had on March 28,2014,killed the 65 year old magistrate at her residence in Laderin Housing Estate,Abeokuta,hacking her with machete before slaughtering her about 3pm.He attacked the magistrate because she sacked him after he was caught stealing.He however returned to the house,scaled the fence before killing the retired magistrate.The convict was arraigned on April 4th 2014,in Abeokuta Chief Magistrate court on one count of unlawful killing.The offence contravened sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun state,2006.
