Anambra Government Reaffirms Mega City Drive, Demolishes Scores of Illegal Structures By Ruth Orji The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing regeneration drive and restoration of sanity across the state through enforcement exercises and demolition of illegal structures statewide. The exercise was led by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, on July 8, in line with the Physical Planning Law of Anambra State. Stating that it is no longer business as usual, the commissioner urged residents to take every notice received from the ministry seriously and comply promptly with planning regulations henceforth. He, however, said several eviction notices had been served but were taken with a pinch of salt, adding that demolitions followed because structures defaced the environment or obstructed pedestrian walkways. It was reported today that at least 25 people were killed by suspected Boko Haram Islamist militants in raids on yesterday monday afternoon and tuesday morning on three communities in Borno state.Fighters in pick-up trucks attacked the town of Dille and two smaller communities in the Askira/Uba area in Borno state about 250km {160 miles} south of Maiduguri the capital of Borno state and the epicenter of the insurgency.Vigilantes resisted the attack on Dille that came around 1pm local time.A police source who declined to be named said the attacks on the smaller nearby communities came early today tuesday.
