 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. 4 ROBBERY SUSPECTS,ARRESTED & TAKEN TO THE POLICE STATION BY RESIDENTS OF AYOBO IN IPAJA.

                  According to sources,a brave residents of Ayobo in Ipaja area of Lagos state,have arrested four suspects who allegedly came in the night to rob the residents.The incident happened at Ashapa area of Ayobo in Ipaja.The residents also recovered arms such as guns,cutlasses,knives,charms and other weapons from the robbers.The suspects allegedly invaded the area with their arms to rob the residents at about 3.00 am on sunday.The residents resisted and pursued them into a bush in the area.They mobilized other residents who surrounded the bush and combed it,and eventually arrested four of the suspects,while one of them escaped.They handed over the four suspects and the weapons they recovered from them,were given to the police in Ipaja division who transferred the suspects to the Commissioner of Police at the Command's Headquarters in Ikeja.The commissioner of police,Mr Fatai Owoseni,who saw the suspects and some of the residents at the State Command commended the residents for their efforts in policing their community.Some of the residents who spoke to pressmen confirmed that robbers have been terrorizing them and they had to mobilise themselves to ward off the robbery attacks.It was while some groups were on guard at night that the suspects came and they raised the alarm which attracted other residents and it led to the arrest of the suspects.
